Regulatory history

Built inside a regulated framework from the start.

VAIOT was established in Malta to operate under the country’s Virtual Financial Assets Act (Chapter 590 of the Laws of Malta), one of the first dedicated legal frameworks for crypto-asset offerings in the European Union.

In 2020 VAIOT Limited carried out an Initial Virtual Financial Asset Offering of the VAI Token under that Act — one of the first offerings of its kind — with its white paper registered with the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA). Grant Thornton Limited acted as the company’s VFA Agent.

VAIOT Limited operates an anti-money-laundering and counter-terrorist-financing policy in line with Maltese law (Prevention of Money Laundering Act, Chapter 373) and processes personal data under the EU General Data Protection Regulation.

MiCA and the new white paper

The EU Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2023/1114, “MiCA”) and Malta’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Act (Chapter 647) now govern crypto-assets such as the VAI Token. VAIOT is preparing a new crypto-asset white paper for the VAI Token in accordance with MiCA. Until it is published, the 2020 white paper is available for historical reference only and does not describe the current state of the project.
